Sadie Jones
It was a pleasure to have met and photographed writer and novelist Sadie Jones at her London home. Screenwriter turned author Sadie’s debut novel The Outcast won the First Novel award in the 2008 Costa Book Awards. Her second novel Small Wars was published in 2009 followed by her third novel in 2012 The Uninvited Guests.
I photographed Sadie on assignment for the Finnish morning daily Helsingin Sanomat and together with London correspondent Annamari Sipilä we met Sadie who talked about her latest novel Fallout.
The white wooden flooring in her Victorian town house felt very Nordic and to Annamari’s delight her home was full of Finnish design such as Aalto & Iittala glass and Alvar Aalto furniture. An Iittala Taika coffee cup can be seen on the garden table in the main photograph.
For Sadie’s portraits I used a one lighting setup and a large aperture to throw the background out of focus. I was rather pleased with the image of her together with her dog in the garden, the balance in the image felt just right.
