Floods Datchet Wraysbury Old Windsor
Having covered the floods in Somerset last week for Sweden’s largest daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter I never thought that I would be doing the same in my home town of Eton a week later. January’s floods came back to Berkshire with vengeance and the flooding was/is extreme. We visited Eton, Datchet, Wraysbury and Old Windsor.
The organisation was late coming but when it did it was impressive. The flood Coordination Centre in Wraysbury was a hive of activity with volunteers making food and supplying hot drinks to other volunteers, RSPCA, Police, Fire Fighters and the Royal Fusiliers. There was a” Dunkirk spirit” in the air.
The main image is of a couple living in Old Windsor who for the past week have to start their morning commute by wading out of their house with their dogs swimming alongside … only to have to do the same thing again when coming home.
