Virginia Nicholson
On assignment for Aftonbladet I drove down to East Sussex with reporter Staffan Heimerson to meet Virginia Nicholson.
Staffan was writing a piece about the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War and the effects it had on the position of women in British society. Virginia was an excellent source for information as her latest book Millions Like Us ‘tracks women’s experiences of a momentous decade through a host of individual stories, drawing on autobiographies, archives and living memory’.
It was a perfect summer’s day the heat of which was quenched by some apple juice made from the orchards surrounding her beautiful mediaeval country house. Virginia was a delight to work with, we took the portraits in her garden.
