Sigrid Rausing
Portraits of Swedish philanthropist Sigrid Rausing founder of the Sigrid Rausing Trust and owner of Granta magazine and Granta Books.
Sigrid was giving interviews for selected media at the offices of Granta in west London, she talked about her new book Everything Is Wonderful an account of rural life in post-Soviet Estonia.
As Sigrid gives interviews rarely I knew the most important thing for me to capture was a nice well-lit portrait of her. It was drummed into me in my early years at a picture agency that whenever you do an assignment always come away with a good portrait – it is the portrait that will live for many years, not the images from the assignment.
Sigrid was a pleasure to work with. I had set up some lighting and a background in an adjoining office and after she had spoken with the journalist I was able to take the portraits I wished for. I also took some images of her on the streets around her office.
