Gentleman Jack – Anne Lister
A very interesting assignment from Helsingin Sanomat to photograph Shibden Hall in Halifax, the former home of Anne Lister (1791 – 1840).
Gentleman Jack is a historical drama television series created by the BBC based on the diaries and life of diarist Anne Lister. Set in 1832 in Halifax, West Yorkshire the series follows Anne’s adventures in restoring her uncle’s estate which she inherited including the magnificent Shibden Hall.
Anne was an amazing woman and unique for her time, she was a diarist, businesswoman, landowner, traveller and lesbian who recored her personal life in diaries written in a secret code. Her diaries and travel notes have been conserved and digitized by Calderdale Museum.
