City Of London Ghost Town
The City of London, one of the most important financial centres in the world, was pre-Covid a hive of activity with some 518,000 people commuting into the City every day – it is now a ghost town. No one knows when life will return to its streets.
On assignment for Helsingin Sanomat, we visited the historic Leadenhall Market in the City, its fast food outlets were once a favourite place for office workers. On our visit we saw just a handful of people. It is reported that the shops, cafes, bars & restaurants have seen customers plunge by 80 per cent “I don’t think the situation will return until there is a vaccine against the coronavirus” said one of those we met.
